VINSSEN Co.,Ltd(CEO Chilhwan Lee), a small boat and green vehicle propulsion system manufacturer, stated it pilot-tested a hydrogen fuel cell electric boat, Hydrogenia in Ulsan Green Hydrogen Mobility Regulation-free Special Zone.

The pilot test conducted in Jangsaengpo Port for small boat in Nam-gu, Ulsan, was attended by Ulsan Mayor Chul-ho Song, Chairman of Ministry of SMEs and Startups Ulsan Regional Office, Nam-woo Ahn, Chairman of Ulsan Technopark Soo-yong Kwon and Head of Korea Register-affiliated research center, Ganghyun, Song. Among them, Mayor Song boarded Hydrogenia upon briefing of the situation and participated in the test-run.

Mayor Song said, “I said that I would like to visit the Taehwa River by hydrogen electric boat in November 2019, when the site was finally designated as a Regulation-free Special Zone and that wish has finally come true today”. He mentioned, “related people strive for technological development based on today’s test to launch a hydrogen fuel cell electric cruise for residents as early as possible”.

Hydrogenia is Korea’s first commercial hydrogen electric boat and made its debut at Busan International Boat Show, where a christening ceremony for the boat took place. It won this year’s best boat award at Busan International Boat Show 2021, and Excellence award from H2 Innovation Award. With eight 51-liter hydrogen cells, It can run for 6 hours at 10 knots (18.5㎞/h) on a 40-minute charge of hydrogen cell weighing 8kg. When the battery is fully charged, it can run for 8 hours.

Included in the government’s “1000 leading innovative businesses” and “the list of Prospective Ocean Star Businesses” picked by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, VINSSEN has been highlighted as a Tesla on sea. Hydrogenia, a hydrogen electric boat is chosen as Ulsan City’s project- “development and validation of small eco-friendly boats equipped with hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system”- and is being currently validated at Ulsan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Validation Center, Korea’s only validation facilities specializing in fuel pipe supply.
